"Pane Amaro/Bitter Bread" has been saluted as the first comprehensive and historically accurate depiction on film of the experiences of Italian immigrants in America.

The film weaves together personal accounts, comments by scholars and a treasure trove of rare photographs and footage to document the moving story of the Italian journey from immigrant victims of prejudice to prominent members of American society, a story that speaks to the commonality in immigrant experiences past and present.

  1. I got to see this last evening, and I can say it was very very interesting. It focused mostly on Italian immigration from a New York City, and New Orleans perspective. There were even some references to Tampa, which I did not know about. It was almost like watching a History Channel documentary. Very fascinating.
