“Pane Amaro/Bitter Bread” has been saluted as the first comprehensive

Italian immigrants in America. The film weaves together personal
accounts, comments by scholars and a treasure trove of rare
photographs and footage to document the moving story of the Italian
journey from immigrant victims of prejudice to prominent members of
American society, a story that speaks to the commonality in immigrant
experiences past and present.
